Spring Publishing Intern

Publishing Intern (New York, NY)

Penzler Publishers is an independent press specializing in mysteries, thrillers, suspense, and true crime, located within the offices of the Mysterious Bookshop. We are seeking a spring intern, starting in January, to support our small publishing team with a variety of tasks related to publicity, social media, production, editorial, and admin. This position is ideal for anyone looking to break into the publishing industry and eager to gain a broad range of experiences across different aspects of book publishing. There will also be occasional opportunities to assist with bookselling tasks for the Mysterious Bookshop.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assembling metadata for each season’s titles
  • Drafting cover copy
  • Proofreading marketing copy and the occasional manuscript
  • Researching and brainstorming publicity strategies
  • Researching social media influencers
  • Creating social media posts
  • Helping to prepare newsletter blasts and other publicity materials
  • Sending out physical and digital review copies
  • Updating company website

Ideal applicants will have strong writing and reading skills, will take initiative and be able to work independently, and will be eager to learn. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Interest in mysteries, thrillers, and true crime is a plus.
